Red Letter

The endless abyss of sleep, a darkness as profound as death surrounded a weary vixen as her eyelids fell, but behind those lids an entire separate world, a world composed of memories melting together in the large, churning pot of the subconscious. This world seemed one the demoness was particularly well acquainted with, but even now, she couldn't have predicted the places the churning sea of her sleep would take her tonight.

She stood at the precipice of a great, gray cliff looking down on the blackened forests of a night. This narrow ledge crumbled a bit beneath her tiny claws as she clutched at the edge and looked at her vivid surroundings. The sky, a oily mess of tar and eggplant purple and blue that may as well have been black, held a full moon as pale as death itself and alone without its usual consort of stars. Huge, black buzzards with faintly glowing white eyes circled above, silent, their claws hanging in the air above like the snatching implements of those machines full of stuffed animals designed to rip off the parents of small children. She crouched and her chops writhed at the ominous sky and its silent guardians.

Looking down to see if there lay a safe place to land, a cloudy, black forest with black trees forming a black canopy completely shrouded the ground, and thus she hesitated to jump. That forest could hold all manner of evil. She looked over her back along the narrow ledge and it widened, disappearing off into a distance so that she couldn't see the end of it. "The fuck is this?" she snarled at the shadows.

Now cornered on the narrow precipice, Grunty felt the presence of another... another much larger than herself. She had an old and ingrained fear of wolves, and, though she was small and female, she met this creature with nothing but writing lips and bared fangs, her fur rising in oscillating waves along her back as she regarded him, nothing but unadulterated hatred in her chartreuse eyes. She backed farther and farther along the unnaturally pointy precipice until it fell under her weight.

Far from worried, her back suddenly burst into a mist, and this mist formed two wings that caught her before she could touch the black forests. They seemed to hiss almost as she fell like a stone only to glide aloft at a high speed, taking occasional flaps to add distance to the space between her and the oddly threatening forest. The birds continued to hover ominously, a couple of them even settling on the moon and studying the scene out of their unseeing, white eyes. She disliked everyone and everything here, she thought, a bit sad at how her wings couldn't carry her much faster than a human's walking speed.

The female fox looked over her back and noticed the large wolf coming at her, now endowed with large, feathery wings like her own misty ones. At this, she couldn't help but grow a little bit angry. It always happened in these dreams... an aggressor appeared and she was always helpless to stop his advent... every. single. last. time.

Snarling, she flapped on, knowing he would be arriving very soon with his much faster method of flight and looked around. The birds would be of no help, and she doubted she could shove him down towards whatever hidden hazards lay in the forests.

A black mist, the color of the oily sky itself began to consume her form, spreading from her wings like a misty fog until her entire body became hidden in it. This black cloud grew in mass, electricity snapping beneath and above the surface until suddenly it cleared in a great burst of sparks.

Instead of a small fox, now a large beast hung in the air, tentacles floating in the air where the fox's mane once was. Indeed, tentacles seemed to punctuate many points upon its form, and they snapped and crackled with the energy of the beast as she turned to face the wolf thing coming after her with a roar.

The buzzards above began cackling, almost seeming to laugh at the scenario below. "I'm not taking any shit off of you this time!" she snarled, her breath like carrion upon the air as the great, misty wings, now reinforced by a tentacle, took a great deal of air under them and pushed it down into the forest, depressing the canopy for a minute and keeping her aloft. Instead of birds, large, monstrous insects, pale as death itself, swarmed up towards the tarry sky and became stuck in the matter. The birds took their time picking the helpless little creatures out of the oily mess, swallowing them with the black substance still in tact with loud slurps and clacks of their beaks. This commotion failed to break the beast's concentration as she glared at the approaching woylf creature, growling her displeasure at his pursuit.

It seemed she'd initiated a dogfight of sorts when she transformed, as now the large wolf thing came rushing at her with the full force of his smaller mass. Her next goal was to confuse him. Namely, she flew at him with her full speed, but when he was almost upon her she would use a spiritual trick of hers that allowed her to phase out of reality, reappearing quickly once she'd cleared him and whirling quickly, immediately calling a lightning bolt down from the disgusting sky onto his head. She'd hoped, by performing that brief maneuver, that he would be confused and thus not expecting an attack from, of all places, the sky. She knew the effects of the thunderbolt well, it would damage him and leave him unable to move for awhile, and in that while she could take advantage, she thought quickly with a monstrous grin.

The huge vixen creature smiled sinisterly as her bolt shocked him, finding its target perfectly. Somehow, most of her fear dissipated and she descended along with him, falling like a sparkling, snarling comet. Eventually, they'd hit the glassy, black floor of the forest and she would land atop him at terminal velocity with her entire weight, breaking the glass and seemingly shattering the entire forest.

The woods and the rock where she was standing and all visible land for miles simply shattered like shards of glass, falling into the darkness of the void where they now hovered.

The birds, situated safely in the sky, cawed their amusement at the events once more, their perch on the moon untouched by the spreading shattering cracks of the world.

The gnats forced the creature to recede, snarling angrily as they came to dig into her closed eyes. Bringing a paw up and wiping it against her face, she attempted to repel the creatures through much snorting and shaking of her snout until finally she simply began to channel electricity through her large form, killing the little insects as she glared towards the man before her, trying to decide what her next move would be.

"What do you want from me?" she'd growl to the flying lycan thing as they both floated over the endless abyss. "What do you want this time? You always appear as someone different, yea? But I know it's you.

"Even if I'm not willing to what?" she roared in confusion, angry and off put by the nature of this dream thus far. The wind visibly ripped from the force of the concussive howl, and she was forced to brace herself against the ripping winds of his voice. Now angry, she decided to try a new approach to this thing... or rather, an approach she often employed when faced with something she'd like to disappear. At first, the void would seem punctuated by glitter in the aftermath of the howl, but the chain reaction, once set in motion, would be completed with ruthless swiftness and efficiency. The glitter soon grew to sand, then insects, then outright fat, glowing balls every color of the rainbow that buzzed and bounced around the void surrounding the wolf creature. The force of blocking the blast with nothing more than air had moved the woman back a sufficient distance from her attack, and now with her own roar she let lose many, many explosions of powerful electric energy in a spherical area of about a hundred feet around the charging lycan, hoping that the force of the blast would knock him off course if it didn't outright vaporize him.
