This Love This Hate (Atilla)

The rat grinned, glad to feel her fangs in the flesh of another once again. She took the kick with a grunt and flew backwards through the air, making a full circle in the air before she landed on all four feet, sliding a short distance and stopping with a whip of her tail.
Ravenously, she brought her eyes back up to her target, deciding quickly which move she should use to finish off her opponent while she judged he was still stunned. "Open the floodgates of heaven..." the rodent snarled, smirking and licking the blood off of her snout. "Let it rain."
It was the same attack she used against the ogre, the sphere of wind and rain and branches whipping around and breaking off and flying around hazardously.

She should've seen it coming, she thought grimly as the glowing circles spread about the ground. She knew what was coming next and crouched low to the ground, not having the time to fly out of range when the inevitable explosion came.
And what an explosion it was! It seemed just like home, she thought grimly, laying her ears flat against her head as she braced herself against the heat. Coughing, she jumped as soon as she could gather the resolve to so the fires wouldn't cause her more damage than was necessary. She caught herself on the air and began walking as though the air were solid ground. Much of the smoke had been whipped away by the fading tempest, and she had a good sense of where her opponent stood. "Dancing death, spoil the spirit!" she shouted, her voice drowned out by the roar of the flames as she spit another faintly glowing ball at the epicenter of the much brighter firestorm. [RM]

Predictably, the devil came up after her, or rather, decided to use a fire attack, but this one brought him within sudden melee distance instead of the projectile distance she was expecting. Squeaking, she was hardly able to get her guard up before she felt the uncomfortable heat wash over her. She was on her last leg, this final hit would have to do it, she thought, feeling the heat fade eventually and with immediate anger lashing out at the man's outstretched wrist, aiming to sink her teeth down to the bone.

The rat's teeth closed on empty air similar to the wind she stood on. She whirled, following the flashing flame in time to hear the demon begin to chant. Naturally, she would rush after him, but since they were equally matched in speed, she didn't doubt that she would make it in time to do anything interesting.
Thus, she kicked out on the open air, giving herself a bit of a boost as she rushed forwards, her hand extended to slash the oni's belly and, missing that, his side.
The movement would place her a few feet in the air past her opponent, which, depending on where the former attack was aimed, may or may not place her out of its range.

The rat grinned, following his descending opponent to the ground, landing lightly on three feet and licking the claws of the fourth, eying the crippled oni hungrily. "This Atilla... you aren't speaking to her. I guess it doesn't matter, huh?"
The creature suddenly passed out.

Yawning Atilla awoke, perhaps sixty minutes later. The crickets chirped all around, and the surroundings were black, lit only by the occasional weird mushroom that responded to the spiritual energy that flowed rich through the area. The mouse sat up at first, cautiously, frightened by even the sound of her own rear on the grass before standing to all four feet, growing a bit more confused. "Takashou-sama?" she whispered experimentally into the darkness. Wherever he was, his fire wasn't giving away his position, and it took a long while for her eyes to get used to the darkness. Her muscles felt sore, as though she'd been overexerting herself, and her fur was burnt black in some areas. Did she fight him or something before she went to sleep? She could hardly remember, but she could feel in her soul that she'd just escaped some great evil, an evil even greater than the ogre they'd defeated.
Her vision finally adjusted to the blackness, and she could make out a few shapes which, along with her slightly better sensing in this form, allowed her to paint a picture of her surroundings. In the distance, she could hear some large pack of primitive yokai bickering and snarling, their feathers rustling as they fought amongst each other and divided the corpse of the ogre. Two of them were curiously approaching the fallen oni, their appearance something like crosses between buzzards and jackals as they alternated between sniffing him to make sure the more advanced spirit wasn't going to get back up and snapping at each other in a disgustingly territorial manner.
The mouse kami felt somewhat rested and defensive enough of her friend to run over and chase them off, her paws glowing as though she planned to cast a spell, but not having one to cast. "Oh shoo! Shoo! None of that, devils!" The two jackal birds hopped away, snarling and glaring bitterly at the mouse, but she was insistent, running after them until they retreated to a nearby tree, where they sulked with ominous, red eyes. Atilla found this somewhat unsettling, as they seemed to be waiting for her to turn her attention away from them, but she forced herself to ignore the hissing pair and pay attention to the demon on the ground. "What happened to you?" she asked softly, knowing he probably couldn't hear her as she settled next to him and gently ran her hand through his soft, red hair. She recalled the ogre being defeated, but everything after that... just fuzziness, as though she'd been asleep. She did have a dream about patching a dam, however. It had been a weird one, two beavers had helped out. Then again, it was strange for her just to rest out here, what if something bigger than the jackal griffins had happened along? Such a frightening thought.
He looked so peaceful now, not destructive, not evil, just... peaceful. She pulled his head into her lap, thinking to rest for a minute so she could gather up the strength to revive him without injuring herself. Something like a bark came from the surrounding forest, however, and she recalled that, with him unconscious, she was pretty much alone and vulnerable.
The kami wouldn't be able to bring him back up to full strength, but she could put enough energy into him to keep him from crossing over into the spiritual world or rotting or being eaten by these beasts around them. Plus, she wanted to ask him something while she rested up to heal him the rest of the way. ""Spiritus est qui vivificat..." she began. "...caro non prodest quicquam verba quae ego locutus sum vobis spiritus et vita sunt."

The oni reopened those beautiful eyes of his, but he still seemed in pain. "Ssssh... I am not strong enough to bring you completely back yet. You should not exert yourself."
She threw an accusatory look back at the jackals, who were stalking around in a large circle back towards their fellows around the ogre. Guessing they were giving up, the kami turned her attention back towards the face in her lap. Resting her hand on the wound on his side, she guessed it was probably caused by those jackals, an angry expression suddenly coming over her visage. What would they have done if she hadn't woken up and come to care for him? The thought of his flesh in their repugnant fangs filled her with such a desire to purge such wicked spirits from this world...
...but there was a limit as to how high those feelings would build. That moment only held the despair of what a world without her friend here would be like.
Grabbing him in a sudden, but careful hug, she held back tears, "I am glad you could wake up," she said in a simple monotone as the thought of her attachment to him brought about a recollection of her promise in heaven and how she could never go through with it. Then again, she hardly knew how to go about such a scary question, though it seemed like if he wasn't fully awake he might not be in a state of mind to refuse. If he said no... what would she do?
Best not to think about it, she decided at length, suddenly blurting, "We are together a lot you know, we should be married."
The question seemed to take a great amount of energy to push out, and she sat there, panting, looking off to the ground at the side to avoid eye contact as she blushed furiously.

The angel's gaze snapped back to her object of affection's, her manner almost nervous. From the statement of the inherit danger in their pairing, she'd fallen into a very brief despair, thinking he would refuse gently, but when he did not... well, that brought her hope. Helping him fight against his chaos, with the great amount that he had, wasn't a small task, but her feelings for him rivaled her feelings to serve Bleaus.
Leaning in a little bit closer, she spoke quietly, as though afraid of offending him. "If you... accept me... I will be anything you need me to be. You may have my body and my soul just... please..."

The kami brought her arms around to snuzzle the other's neck. Sighing as she smiled gently, with satisfaction. All was right with the world. "You mean the world to me..." she murmured, not understanding the reference to being herself. A wedding wasn't in order, but she did feel like she'd need to go back in to town to buy a ring... a nice, big, expensive, pretty ring. The angel could barely contain her excitement and, feeling a sudden rush of energy, placed her hand on the other's wound and channeled healing energy into it with another of her indiscernible Latin chants.
The chanting finished, she would lean down and shyly peck at his cheek. "Are you well, Takashou-sama?"

The temperatures caused the kami to relax, though she knew the kiss shouldn't have surprised her as much as it did. She'd crossed a threshold, however, and with the guilt attached to her own physical wants removed, she was only slowly learning how to deal with them now that they were no longer repressed.
Yet, she trusted her partner in what was unfamiliar territory to her, and she lowered her head so he wouldn't have to lean up, her elbows resting on the ground on either side of him, basking in her sudden wash of emotions.
