Since birth, Kaito had no desire to be overly successful. Doing enough to warrant attention and praise from his parents was more than enough for him, and even if the teacher would complain that he never worked to his hardest potential, he would just shrug it off. Despite their opinions that he was an \\\"unblossomed-genius\\\" Regardless of that attitude, he managed to keep his grades above failing, but away from the top to warrant unwanted attention. \\\"If I ace every test and always do all my work perfectly, people will come to expect greater things from me, and the extra work doesn't sound appealing to me in the least.\\\" That was his excuse, and luckily for him, his parents understood and saw him to be perfectly happy the way he was. They, themselves, were happy enough that he was maintaining average grades, so they saw no reason to go over the edge with him.
Unfortunately, he also saw making a group of friends to be the same way. While he was by no means a loner, he wasn't openly social; he preferred to do most work in a group of one. He had people who he could sit and talk with enough to be friends, but never did he feel that his small circle wasn't enough. It concerned his teachers, but showed his parents he was happy with what they considered, \\\"the simple things\\\": happiness, and a group of trustworthy people to call friends.
During his high school career, he was sent away from his family to attend the 'prestigious' high school that was Saichushigai HS. It was at this point in his life, like with most people, that he began to mold into the man he would become. A sudden change happened in him physically, sprouting a few inches, but becoming a much more physically-fit specimen. Students began to joke with him about taking drugs, but he just laughed it off and kept the answer to himself, retaining the story of the incident from others. He, himself, wasn't quite sure exactly what happened, so how could he try to explain to others?
On top of that, he realized his passion for cooking and board games once he moved out on his own. Without anyone else to rely on, he had to prepare his own meals from then on. At first, the meals were terrible. But, as he began to get better and better, he saw the reaction people had to his personally prepared dishes and the satisfaction and self-reliance it brought to him was enticing. But, besides cooking, he had nothing else to do all day. Without a wide circle of friends, he was left on his lonesome to fend off boredom all alone. After giving in and taking some advice from his mother over the phone, he went out and purchased a few old board games and, strangely enough, developed a deep bond for them. The many different types of attack you could pull off in a game of chess, or how you go about dismantling the wall in front of you in mahjong. It grasped his heart and hooked him on their simple complexities. In the eyes of his parents, it was at this point he truly became an \\\"old man in a young kid's clothing.\\\"
Currently, he attends class, and maintains his good grades. With the senior year finally beginning, the questions of what this slacker will do in life are falling upon him, and he wants nothing more than to ignore it all and continue with his daily routine of sleeping and goofing off.
