Hotaka Kaito!
It was dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

"What an annoyance..." The sky, seemingly painted by an artist utilizing only different shades of black, spread above my head as I slowly made my way through the Lower Commons. Transversing these streets during the day was dangerous; at night, it could be considered suicide. Spirits would work their magic on the unattentive, catching them in their web to fall prey to their unsavory plans. Fortunately enough, that was exactly what I was hoping for. I was the kind of person who would venture into a dangerous place without much of a reason, though there would always be one. It was simply a matter of how good that reason was. In this case, it was with the goal of increasing my strength in mind.
Either way, these trips weren't a rarity for me. I'd come down here quite often at night -- once the little one had gone to bed -- to do things like this. I would quite often get into long fights with these guys which would eat up a lot of the night time. Occasionally, though, I was able to get away with just conversing with them. Either way was fine, since I could learn things from these spirits anyway. Like a student going to the library, I was coming here to learn. However that came about was unimportant. I was perfectly fine learning through combat. And it was always an interesting experience, as well, since the spirits I'd fight were always different. They would reflect the person they were before death, so naturally their combat strategies would be different as well.
But before I could go about doing that, I would need to recover a bit from an earlier match I had gotten out of. It was a victory for me, obviously, but I had still been scratched up a bit by my opponent. Reaching to my face, I concentrate a little as after a moments focus and a short incantation muttered under my breath, light emits from my hand and seems to almost 'attack' the cut on the side of my face. The wound slowly begins to close, but halfway through, the magical light fades as my spell fizzles. I curse aloud and sigh. I haven't quite perfected these spells just yet. Odd, since it was supposed to be my 'destined style', according to that one spirit.
Lowering my hands, I cast a gaze around the area. I was in the middle of the street, with several run down buildings on every side. Alleyways ran along the space between each large brick structure, and essentially existed as an invitation to a fight. It was like at the end of a video game, they would set warp systems in front of you and you would choose one, and then get sent straight to a fight. At this time of the night, picking an alleyway would be the same thing: you'd be inviting whatever spirit resided there into a brawl. But right now, I just wanted to mend my wounds, so I would save that for later. Anything interested in coming at me would have to leave its home and come do it in the middle of the streets.

It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

As I stood in the middle of the streets, ironically finding myself safest in the most wide open area, I again bring my hands to my face and try to channel the energy. It would take concentration and focus if I was to get it right, but I was someone who was naturally good at that. I was a calm person by nature. Unfortunately, on this night, amidst the twilight, there seemed to be a disturbance. Someone, or something, did not want to grant me my focus. It was the sound of a crash of sorts, or a general ruckus. My mind told me it was probably just two spirits fighting somewhere, but the thought of it being another person in need of assistance lingered. If it was two spirits, I could just leave them be as I didn't care about their well-being right now. But if it was a human, I would feel obligated to help.
After a moment's thought, the probability of it being a human seemed to have grown in my mind as I made my way to where the noise originated from. The risk that was associated with just brushing it off was too great. Besides, if it was a fight between spirits, they would likely end up coming to where I was located now as the melee would spill out into the streets. Nipping it in the bud now would be beneficial in the long run. With that in mind, I turn the corner of the alleyway and scan the immediate area for any disturbances. The most potent thing would be the presence of a seemingly discarded body, along with a noticeable dent on the lid of the dumpster on which he rested. I approached the body slowly, making sure not to drop my guard in case it was a trap. Whether this was the work of a less-than-wholesome spirit, I didn't know, but if he was still alive, I would have to try and help him.
In front of the dumpster, I would crouch down and try to get face to face with him to assess the situation a little better. "Hey, are you alright?" I ask. It was such a stupid question, but it was essentially the only way to start a conversation in this situation. Perhaps if I had more time to prepare, I could've come up with something witty and original, but right now that was all I could think of. Either way, it looked like I was going to get some usage out of the my healing techniques tonight.

Hotaka Kaito!
It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

Surprisingly enough, the body that at first looked as if it was discarded by some spirit that had had its way with it, was moving on its own and was able to rub its head without too much apparent trouble. Shortly after, he was able to give me a non-verbal answer to my question, so it seemed like he was fine. I didn't notice any twisted limbs or blood, so I didn't need to hurry him to a hospital or anything. It was a relief that he was fine, but I still wanted to give him a closer look and find out just what the cause of it all was. There was still the possibility of it being a spirit, though if it was he would likely be trying to run even now.
When the man tries to get up and better situate himself, I take a step back and let him get in a comfortable position. Once he seems to be content with his spot and finishes grooming himself after his fall, I move towards him again and begin to look him over, assuming he would let me. He was certainly dirty and bruised up a bit, but it wasn't anything serious, like I figured. I checked for bleeding and open wounds, or any part of his body that seemed twisted or dangling in an odd fashion. While I knew more about the human body and anatomy than a normal person my age would due to my enjoyment of relaxing and reading my spare time, I was no medical expert, so there was only so much I could determine. "You seem to be alright," I mention, in a voice that didn't say I was enthralled by the whole situation but also didn't sound as if I was oblivious to the whole thing. "You're not bleeding anywhere I can see, and nothing's twisted. Just beat up a bit. Here..." I try to move myself closer to him, and extend my open palms towards his face (again assuming he wouldn't cut me off), which seemed to be the most damaged area. Did he land face first, perhaps?
The man might hear my voice lightly murmur something before my hands began to grow with a mixture of a green and yellow light. I would need to focus clearly this time, and my mind was so intensely into it that I was gritting my teeth without even noticing. If he didn't get scared off by any of this and hung out there for long enough, he would likely feel a soothing, warming sensation spread from his face through his neck and to the rest of his body, where the pain would be diminished greatly. Once I exerted enough energy, I dropped my arms, satisfied that I had successfully performed the spell this time. But even though it was successful, it was tiring. I took a step back and let out a deep breath, raising my hand to my chest as it began to heave in and out. I had just gotten out of a fight moments before, so I was already tired. At this point I was pushing myself just a bit. If the man still hadn't retreated by this point, I would smile once I caught my breath. "The name's Hotaka Kaito. I assume you're feeling better?" I thought of asking him what happened, but before any of that, I wanted to make sure he felt okay. If it really was a spirit, I'd want to make sure he wasn't weighed down by pain or anything, or else protecting him would prove to be difficult.

___It was hobo season, this was well known in the spiritual world. Summer and spring, homeless or down and out humans populated almost every street corner. Winter was harder, the spirits would turn on each other, but for now nothing beat the fun and taste of a bona fide human being. Such fare the vixen that trotted along the dirty alleyways, as black as the night itself, never partook of until last night when she dined on the delicate meat of a teenager out past curfew. His tender flesh held a unique sweetness that came only from a creature who absorbed too much energy drinks and soda in his lifetime, but there was something primitively gratifying in the dish. Thus, being the hedonist she was, she was out looking for another.
___As such, the sounds of the physical activity going down in the quiet alley drew her like a moth to a streetlight, her tongue lolling like a dog's, until she came quietly upon where she judged the sounds to be coming from. Before she could think to go into stealth mode or spring, however, she recognized one of the few young men who would purposely be out this time of night, as if to taunt fate itself. "Hotaka, eh?" she thought to herself, trotting into the alleyway and noting the fleeting scent of injury on the air. Though she would only turn on a customer if he had no intentions of ever buying again, there seemed to be another person. Perhaps he was crippled?
___Shifting back into her more familiar form, she would approach the pair of men with a warm smile and amiable greeting. "Kaito!" she'd move to pat him hard on the shoulder if he didn't resist. "How've you been my good man? Enjoying yer purchase I hope, ha ha! Who's yer friend?" The wistful gaze she gave the stranger had an excited and ominous air to it, like a child at a dinner table awaiting permission to eat. "I heard a loud crash, he injured much?"

Hotaka Kaito!
It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

The young man gives me his name in return to my own, and that was a signal to me that he was alright. If he was able to communicate like that, and didn't scream, "My xxx hurts!", then there probably really was no serious problem with him. He was likely just dazed, as I assumed. Of course I would keep my distance from him as he attempted to resituate himself. That would work out well, as I still had to get a little bit of wind back in me after that one. I didn't have to heal him too much and it seemed I had a natural affinity towards it, but I haven't used that skill too much yet, so it was still a new feeling.
However, as Ren is getting himself comfortable again, a presence makes itself known. A new challenger appears, you could say. The voice is familiar, and, for some unknown reason, it puts me on edge. Shortly after, the hand comes down on my shoulder, accompanying the calling of my name. I nearly flinch as I look to the side, realizing who it was. The familiar, hustling woman seemed to be rather chipper on this chilly night. Of course, women like her weren't to be trusted based on their initial disposition, so I wasn't about to believe she just wanted to meet and greet at this hour. "I've been fine... Moskau's fine..." I say, answering her general questions up front. When she moves on and eyes Ren as he rests up, I can't help but feel she has some plans for the poor man. Her question is odd, since she didn't seem to be the type to care about another's status unless she had plans for that person. If she didn't have something in store, she'd probably ignore him and talk solely to me.
Interestingly, Ren doesn't seem to turn down the gaze of this woman at all. In fact, he seems to welcome it and challenge it back with what seems to be a glare of his own. "His name's Ren. He's not really injured; just jumbled. Took a little spill, is all." It may be unwise to disclose much information, but then again, if I was to hide something from her, she'd probably smell it and dig even deeper. She seemed to have snake-like qualities about her. Of course I couldn't just let her have her fun with my new 'buddy' here, so I'd have to take command of the situation. "Was there something special you needed? Or perhaps, you're offering a special product you're peddling at this hour?"

___The newcomer seemed unphased by the return look the non customer gave her, instead perking up at the sight of his initial lack of balance when unboarding the trash can like a cat at the sight of a flailing bird. She settled back down when he regained his balance, however, an almost disappointed expression in her eyes. "Ah... a spill..." she mumbled distantly, looking up for the closest fire escape and wondering exactly how far the man could've fallen. "Well, if ya ain't a regular customer means you have to fill out a custom order so I'll know what ye want. I tend to supply on a need - is basis, eh? But my normal inventory is the good ol' Super Skunk... err... that's Mary Jane for ye uninitia... less knowing people. I got speeddust, that's good stuff let me tell ye. Tried some the other night, got wasted like a motherfucker. I'll do a demonstration in a bit, makes ye a lot faster, and I got my good ole lovemusk. Speakin' of which, is the little tyke ye bought puttin out? Ah, that's none of my business. I guess ye don't want me talking about yer personal business in front of yer friends... might spill, chick is awfully young. Anyways!"
___Though her malicious gaze rested on the man since she stopped looking at the fire escape, this was her first time addressing him directly and sans any interruption from the man's Good Samaritan she would trot over, extending a hand to him as though for a shake, purring, "Name's Grunty. Ies a merchant of pleasure, fun, and escape... make quite a few sales on this end of town. Ye don't look like a spirit, what're ya doin out this time of night, eh? Kinda dangerous if yer not from these parts." Her toothy grin widened perceptibly and her eyes narrowed to very small slits, glowing vile hues of yellow and green as if to make the rest of her form look darker. The hand she extended, like the rest of her skin, was dark, maybe from melanin, maybe from dirt and covered with a frayed black fingerless glove. Her fingernails were cracked, slightly yellow, and black, more like claws in form. A T-shirt with a dove with its back turned to the viewer adorned her torso, covered in turn by a big, baggy, dark green camo coat with fake fur trim, the white of the collar lost long ago to yellowish brown dirt. Long and ragged, her hair hung down from below a grimy baseball cap, bound only by a few ninja-style bandages on the tendrils of her bangs. Black cargo shorts covered her skinny waist and legs, from which she drew the different drugs as she talked about them and put them back, all except the speed sample, which she held in the hand that wasn't out for a shake. All in all, she looked like she had been bathing less than usual these past few weeks. "Bad shit happens, trust meh."

Hotaka Kaito!
It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

As I would expect, the woman remains as crass as she was when I met her before. The manner of which she goes through her stock of inventory is just the way I predicted she would. But when she gets to Moskau... I flinch on the inside. 'Putting out'... those words hurt due to their truth. She hadn't been, no, but that was the reason I had bought her, wasn't it? I had been too ashamed to even attempt that, and instead, only ended up with what would be considered by many to be an adopted child. Luckily she finishes that subject quickly enough, but suddenly she turns her attention back to Ren. It made me nervous that he was the object of her attention, because knowing her, she'd only do so if she had plans for him.
Instead of stopping her, however, I allow the two to meet and greet. I only keep my gaze on the two to make sure she doesn't threaten his life in any major way. The two seemingly get along okay, although Ren doesn't seem to say much -- fair enough. He doesn't seem to be much of a talker anyway. But he keeps himself strong. That was... good, I guess. This woman seemed to be the type that would smell his fear if he backed down, but also seemed to be the type that would return a challenge if he were to contest her. What he was doing could very well be the latter in her eyes. Essentially no matter what he did, he was in a dangerous situation with this one. Money-grubbing types like her were all business, and that was evident by the way she treated me the first time we met. She seemed intent to kill me when she didn't see me as a customer...
...Ah! That gives me an idea! Taking a step closer to the two -- one grungy and messy and the other was... well, not that well off either -- I would look out of place dressed in my school uniform. I make a small effort to interject in the conversation to avoid an inappropriate path from being taken. "Y'know, Grunty, Ren here is a... gatherer." I say, possibly lying. I didn't really know what he did, but since he never made mention of it I could only imagine. What's more, he was around a place like this at such late time. And he wasn't a spirit. That left two possibilities: either he sold, or gathered. There was no other logical reason for anyone to be out here so late (I'm a special case). Judging from his reaction and how he acted, calling him a seller like Grunty was would be idiotic, which meant he was a gatherer. However, whether he stole from others, took scraps which were left over from garbage cans or dumpsters, or simply made deliveries, I didn't know, but it wasn't important. It was a general term that I would use so I could at least have some semblance of being correct. "To someone like you, he could be very useful. You must need to keep your inventory replenished, right? You're running a business after all."

___"Inventory?" the woman purred distantly, far too caught up in her thoughts to figure out what in the heck "gatherer" meant and deciding that since she'd come so far without one she could do without one now. The tenseness of the object of her focus, however, was almost tangible... delicious. "Eh... males don't sell too well unless they real young. There ain't many guys like you out there like guys, but they do pay alot. Anyways... Ran was it? Maybe we aughta get acquainted, you is a little cute, ain't ye?"
___During the latter portion of her sentence, the darkness in the alleyway seemed to consume the woman, covering her until it became clear that she was a small black vixen again, a little larger than a large cat. In a similarly feline manner, she went to rub her head and body against the stranger, seeming peaceful for the moment.

Hotaka Kaito!
It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

It seemed that my attempt to make her lose interest in the young man failed. No matter, I would just have to go about it in a different way. Her talk of peddling men is something that gives me an idea, but before I could really get started on my plan, her body begins to fade away into the darkness of the alley. As if engulfed by the roaring tide of a black sea, she was no longer visible for a moments time. Once her form was once more seeable, it had changed. It was enough to take me off my guard, but wasn't anything I hadn't seen a spirit do before. Still, what would she want to do in such a form? A small creature like that couldn't pose more harm to us than her humanoid one could, could it? I mean, I was well aware she had some mastery of lytning magic, as she binded me with it last time, but to what point could she control it? Would this state make it easier? Or was she just transforming to transform? Either way, I assumed she was done talking, since I didn't know if she could speak our language when she was like this.
Turning to Ren, I really don't know what to say at this point. Should I tell him to run? I didn't know where his abilities lied, so I was pretty S.O.L there. Of course, his looking at me for a solution didn't help either. There was one idea that struck out at me, and it begged to be at least attempted. In order to do so, I kneel down into a crouching position and cup my hand a little bit before turning it over, so that the back was exposed. I would then try and rub the back of my knuckle on the woman... animal... Grunty... whatever, as it went to rub against Ren. If I could, I would try to move my hand to a position where I could scratch under her neck. Since she seemed to be a small animal, maybe she would react the same way? I know some cats don't like that spot scratched, but those that do usually fall into ecstasy when it's touched by a warm hand. Hopefully she too would feel that and then her mind would be put off from whatever devious plan it had concocted.

___Stopping briefly, Grunty accepted the scratch under the chin, purring despite her apparent species. The alley seemed to be filled with an odd energy. Only slightly detectable would be the force that would make the hair on one's head stand on end ever so slightly [lytscatters]. The timing of it made it seem as a reflex to the pleasure of the touch, but she only briefly licked Kaito's hand and almost capriciously continued on her way to the other man. An odd combination of his status of non-customer and the fact that he simply looked and smelled nicer than the other compelled her forward. Seeming to want his attention above the other's, she'd go to lick his hand and sit in front of him expectantly.

Hotaka Kaito!
It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

For a moment, it seemed like my plan had worked, as Grunty's new form seems to enjoy the pleasure of my hand. Of course, quickly after coming to me, she leaves and decides to return to Ren instead, just like a cat or dog would gladly be appreciated by another, but would always return to its master in the end. Once she got to him, however, I noticed how odd he was acting. He seemed to be very happy with petting the small creature and didn't seem to hold that passive-aggressiveness that he had before, when he contested Grunty's glare. Had he perhaps cracked under the pressure of a spiritual being? What was his problem? Did he get caught under an illusion spell Grunty cast? No, I would've seen that (probably). But the way she's sitting in front of him makes it look like she wants something from him, or she's waiting for something to happen.
Following that assumption, I hear a metal clang behind me, and look to see two pieces of busted pipe, or sheet metal, or something, stuck tightly together. I raise an eyebrow at this, and then turn to cast my questioning gaze at the small animal that was playing with Ren, who seemed to have snapped out of his 'mental coma'. That was good, but he still didn't seem to be of much use. What else could I do at this point? Ahh, not much, probably. But Grunty still wasn't doing anything, so I figure I could probably go back and restart the conversation I was having with Ren before hand? "So, Ren... what do you do, anyway? Like, with your life..." It was something that I could use to try and learn more of his strengths and weaknesses if the time came to ever fight, and if I had a normal conversation with him, perhaps I could keep him anchored in reality.

Interrupt no Jutsu!
___The vixen sat calmly, her tongue lolling out and her head tilted to the side slightly, waiting, expectant. What she was looking for seemed to come in the form of Ren, in a daze. When the hand reached out in her general direction, the playful, almost flirting demeanor stayed. Stayed even as she launched herself at the base of his arm, fangs bared and ready to clamp down like a steel trap. To her, this was all just a game, would remain all just a game. She wasn't the sort to take seriously the lives of others except as devices to advance the goals of her own pleasures. Running through her mind, making her smile, had been the vision of the boy she'd overcome and eaten before... poor soul had no hitorinji around to help and no spiritual friends to even care. The anticipation of the taste of that blood... the somewhat rusty taste and the unique texture as it dried... the snap of tendons and the crunch of bones... the softness of the flesh... such things drove her forward with all of the weak speed she could muster like the wicked demon she was.

It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

Before I can do much besides watch Grunty sit patiently in front of Ren's feet, she's on him. All he had done was put his hand out to scratch the feline, much like I had. But her reaction to him was exactly what I feared: he was her target. Which meant I would have a hard time doing anything here since I would have to protect him from her. If it was me she was after, I could go on worrying only about myself and fend her off like that. But no; this time, I had to worry about another person. I always hated escort missions in games; not because they would require strategy (I would've liked it if they did), but because the CPU was always so stupid and walked into a group of enemies we could've easily gone around. I could only hope it wouldn't turn out to be the same headache this time around.
By the time the girl-woman-cat thing latches on, Ren seems to be working to get it off. If I had only been closer, I could've grabbed her out of the air, but her walk away from me after brushing my hand off put too much distance between Ren and myself. At this point, my body begins to prepare itself for a fight. I wasn't about to go over and try and rip it off of Ren, since its fangs were likely the kind that would tear flesh as it was forcefully removed, but as soon as it got off of him, I'd be there to put myself in between the two. I would not allow Grunty to have her perfect meal just like that!

___The fox flows backwards with the movements of her "prey" as it were, but her goal wasn't simply to latch on, it was to tear off a piece. Like any carnivore, it mattered little to her if the man lay dead or not, thus, since she seemed to have grasped a sufficiently fleshy portion of his arm, she didn't need to worry about pulling him down, she simply moved with the momentum and shook her head until the muscles ripped free, bracing herself against the garbage can so she moved opposite the motions of the falling man.
___Thus, she landed some twenty or so feet away to the right and forward of the man, turning, her red mouth grinning with silent wickedness. So Kaito did intend to protect this man, she thought, her primitive mind running through her flighty memory in an attempt to recall any manifestations of power he'd shown previously other than being a schoolboy that walked the dangerous streets this time of night. Well, since he did walk and hadn't been eaten before that means he should know how to do something defensive at least other than taste bad, but she found herself not caring after she finished the bit of meat. Whatever the defender had, she'd be prepared for it.
___However, she didn't rush to attack him out of uncertainty. Did he really intend to fight a demon clearly past caring to defend this man, or would he try to flee when she made it clear she meant business? Slowly, the magnetized alleyway became lit with one large yellow spark, then another slightly smaller until a charged spiral glowed on the ground outward from the fox. For now, though, they stayed on the ground, the gesture to all appearances a bluff to see if it would make the customer back down to avoid a fight. Nothing's worse than an injured customer after all, but it seemed that he wasn't going to be reordering soon anyways.

It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

The moment the small feline would bound through the air and away from Ren, I would close the distance him and myself, putting my body directly between the small animal and her dinner. From the glimpse I could catch on the way over, he had a pretty bad wound there, but it wasn't immediately life-threatening. If I didn't get him patched up quickly though, he may lose some of the movement in that arm of his permanently, if not the entire arm itself. But that would have to wait. If I focused on that now, then both of us would end up with the permanent loss of much more than just our arms. Although that brought up a good point: how hard would she go after me? I was still a customer after all. There were things I wanted that I figured she could probably get me, though it may not be up her alley...
But that part was unimportant at this moment. While the fox bounds away and chews its meal, I begin focusing the energy inside of my body for a spell of my own. It's true I wasn't very offensively skillful yet with magic, but I had some support moves. It took a moment's concentration before I could fully get it right, since it was also a move I hadn't extensively used before, but I remembered the chant which originally made it work. I would need to focus completely on the spell in order to get it right, since I was such a novice with it. Of course, I'm nearly interrupted by the out flowing spark of magnetic energy, but because it doesn't seem to do anything, I was able to keep concentration on the technique. Under my breath, I speak silently, "Divine Sustenance, Filter Darkness with Light!"

At about this point, hopefully working since the fox should be slowed due to her own spell cast and the distance she put between herself and Ren, small particles of light would rise from the ground around Ren and myself. Both Ren and I would feel... quite a bit better, actually. Ren would likely feel lighter and more confident, like he was having one of those days where every muscle in his body was ready to respond to every command he could think of. He'd be faster, quicker, and stronger, thanks to the effects of the spell. As for myself, I would also feel all of these things, but it was filtered out by the weight of the drain from the spell. The spiritual markings granted due to my Hitorinji status would be completely evident, with the shouchou-artifact symbol glowing in the shape of a small orb on my chest, over my heart. My skin would darken slightly and my hair would turn a whiter color, but I would generally look the same aside from all that. There was no bulk-up in muscle or rips in my uniform from going Super Kaito 2 or anything like that. And of course, I wouldn't make a rapid advance towards the feline either, since I only wanted to get myself in a situation to play on a more even playing field.

___It seemed that the boy performed some sort of... well, spell. Humans had to do those silly chants and all. Her yellow eyes went back to the man. Not attacking Ren's legs looked like a bad decision now, he could probably flee if he wanted to, so she'd have to be making sure that he didn't escape while Kaito was doing all of these distracting... mischiefs.
___The ominous chanting got the vixen on guard, however, so she began a counter attack as soon as she recovered from her last spell (probably around the middle of the rain). As quickly as possible for such a massive action, she began to raise the garbage bin from behind her victim and move it off the ground and a bit towards herself, letting it go above the head of the student (magnetism). Hopefully the weight would injure him enough to keep him out of the way.

It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

As I began to feel the rain take effect partway though and my Hitorinji mode was revealed, I was trying to figure out the next move in my plan. I hadn't come prepared for more than a battle with some lesser spirits, so I was going to have to make things up on the fly. I was pretty limited in what I could do at this point, since I was facing a magic user and I only had access to support magic. I considered backing away and trying to patch up Ren a little more, but that would leave us both exposed. There was also the option of rummaging through some of the garbage for a weapon of sorts -- likely to be a broken beer bottle -- but I was better off with my fists. There was the option of throwing it to Ren, as perhaps he could make use of a weapon like that, but then again, he may very well be useless with it. Not knowing his capabilities put me at a disadvantage, since I needed to protect him too. He might very well be dead weight.
No sooner had I thought that, than had I heard his voice call my name. I think. "Keito?" I question mentally, but the tone of his voice had some urgency to it which caused me to react. Since I had put myself between him and Grunty, he was to be my backguard; the eyes in the back of my head, since I didn't know what she could do besides bind people. Knowing his location, I naturally expected it to be somewhere I couldn't see: above, below, or behind. It likely wasn't below, so I would look over my shoulder and upward, catching a glimpse of the large, floating object which really wasn't floating for long in my eyes. As the large object fell, and I say object because I couldn't quite tell what it was, thanks to Ren's timely call, I was able to hop backwards and out of the way as it descended. I didn't have much time to react, but thanks to the heightened abilities I was granted as a result of the spell, I was able to dodge. The sheer quickness with which I moved was another surprise to me, and I wasted a moment in awe of it. But it would only be a moment.
Following her 'attack', I would need to make one of my own. Since I couldn't formulate much of a plan, I instead would strike head on and try to put her on the defensive. The only other option I had at that point was calling for help, but as a man my pride wouldn't allow that (and her magic seemed to be lightning/electric based, so she could probably screw up my signal without much work). Reaching the fallen dumpster, which I now did actually realize was a dumpster, I would put my hand on its now upward-turend back to lift myself up and get a leg on it. Once the leg was up, I would kick off of it and try to use that as a running start to rush Grunty's small form. I was going to try a basic stomp move if I could reach her, but I figured it was unlikely to work so easily.

___The trash can failed due to her victim speaking out... an unfortunate turn of events, but less worrysome than the sudden speed she found the student able to move with. Simply put, fast moving students did not exist in her frame of mind, or resilient humans for that matter. He must be one of those special ones as she'd guessed before, since he could use magic and such. However, instead of being put into the state of fear and repentance such displays of skill would ordinarily put her in, she found herself increasingly angry. There lied a perfectly good pile of untouched, unspoiled meat as though heaven itself had placed it there for her consumption with a little red gift ribbon around it. She'd found it fair and square, but instead of giving her, the poor starving spirit, what in the course of nature would've been rightfully hers, this ex customer of hers practically dripping money out of his behind healed the runt up and tried to keep him out of her reach. Did he have any idea how hard it was to find an adult male of the right age, size and level of proneness that hadn't already been horribly raped and eaten up by Jezebeth or Xaphan or Furfur or what the hell ever demon lord decided to go frolicking through her turf that particular night?
___Thus, these thoughts kept running through her head, but she lacked the proper mouth and throat structure to speak it, other than growls steadily increasing in their ominousness levels. Unfortunately, last on the list of things she was good at while doing something else was thinking and thus her reflection, though making her angrier, left her in a position where as the student rushed in with his unexpected speed she wasn't completely prepared.
___She tried to hop out of the way, but the suddenness of the maneuver combined with her ineptitude in this form, the form that until the recent year she hadn't been doing much with other than frolicking through the meadows of the perfect plane, made her instead fall backwards, her feet in the air and her tail in the trajectory of the stomping attack she'd put so much energy into avoiding.
___Pain is a bad thing for such a dedicated hedonist. The frustration levels got so high that it appeared the small form of the creature could not contain all the anger and resentment, thus, she went into what appeared to be a very violent seizure. Fifteen or so seconds of howling, growling, choking, thrashing violently, and foaming at the mouth later, she lay completely still on the ground of the alley, her eyes glazed and staring forward in an oddly unsettling manner.

It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

To my surprise, my stomp/kick attack seemed to work on the angry spirit. Its body was sent away from me, twirling through the air like a rag doll of sorts. Rather impressed and noticeably surprised by both the fact that it succeeded and with my own speed once again, I stood there and watched Grunty's body fly away. When it hit the ground, my muscles relaxed just a bit. However, the fact that the small body went into what seemed to be an unconscious panic attack of sorts didn't really calm me down. It seemed to go on for a while, and during it all, I was wondering why I didn't pursue the target and keep beating it up until it was bloody and squished and completely dead. It wasn't like I had some dumb idea of "I can't deface an opponent's (supposedly) dead corpse." I would hold a thought like that for an honorable fight, sure, as I had no intention of disrespecting my opponent, but this wasn't an honorable fight. This was a fight to the death. And I had seen enough horror movies to know that when you thought the killer was dead, he wasn't really. But instead of being smart, I just continue to act like one of the heroes in a stupid slasher movie and don't take advantage of the down time of my enemy. With how long it's lasting, I could easily have stomped its head in by now. But instead, I find myself just standing there, muscles all rebraced in case of danger.
When the spirit is finally finished, the body is motionless, and for a moment I think it was over. Despite this, I realize my luck likely isn't so good. Preparing for the worst, I speak out to Ren who should still be behind me. "We should probably leave." I say, refering to the alleyway we're in. "I doubt she's done and I doubt she'll let us escape, but we should at least get out of this alley. I think that spiral of light thing she did just a moment ago had some effect on the stuff in this place. A strategic retreat to a more favorable position would be smart."

___As the other two talked, another odd transformation seemed to transpire. Once again she seemed to fade into the darkness of the alleyway, the shadows of the alley seeming to swallow the small form of the fox as the lights she'd created went out completely. Even the sickly glow of her eyes disappeared beneath what seemed to be a sooty mist. A deep growl, like stones tumbling down a mountain echoed about the alleyway as the shadows stood up and the form they'd taken, a much larger, but completely black canine with ragged vulture wings stood to it's menacingly clawed feet.
___Slowly, the electric lights seemed to pick back up, glowing red and purple instead of their usual yellow and green. Once they came to full power, it would be easier to pick out the features of the creature. Where the smaller form had black fur that at least reflected some light, this thing had only swirling, amorphous black mist about a gaunt form. The feet seemed solid enough, but even the claws that were once sort of ivory grey were black like onyx, matching the swirling fog of the animal. Though disturbingly thin and skeletal, it stood some eight or nine feet at the shoulder. It's crazed, yellowish green eyes, similar to her human form's but without the reassuring whites that distinguished a person from a beast, and coursed through by dark veins, settled on something near the ground and it's mouth widened, as though in a grin. The canid's teeth and gums, like everything else, was black, and a disgusting black substance, like some sort of syrup composed of mold, drooled forth as it's sooty tongue licked the dark teeth. "Ah..." Grunty's voice, lacking it's normal pseudo friendly airs would sound without the aid of the creature's mouth, seeming to simply come from its thoughts. "I forgot to give y'all that demonstration I was talking about."
___Ducking her head, the beast sniffed around on the ground until she found one of her baggies of speed and would consume it shortly.

It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

As I await the answer from my comrade, the beast that lay in front of me seemed to disappear into the darkness once again. The once brightened alleyway had been dimmed, leaving no ambient light with which to see. I could barely make out the shapes all around me, and had I not had time to adjust to the darkness of the middle of the night, I would be completely blinded. It didn't help that I had started readjusting to the light produced by the beast's spark magic. Despite all that, I could still clearly tell that the monster had disappeared. But of course, I didn't question it. Before I could, I was reminded of the last time that happened, just a moment ago when things were still peaceful. She seemed to absorb the darkness all around her and shift her shape into the one she was in now. I figured she'd be doing that again, but I also somewhat expected it to be her humanoid form.
Of course, as the lights came back, what I expected and what I got were different. The large, portentous form of the haunting spirit took command of the alleyway with its presence. Taking in the details as they were revealed to me, I had no moment of wide-eyed fear. I had already accepted this as a possibility, though admittedly I had put it in the "less than 10%" list. I had seen a few of these kinds of things before, as well as beasts that grew even larger, like the one I saw that time the city was attacked by "terrorists" back a few months ago. Obviously enough, my estimation was wrong. I knew she would have to be strong, since she seemed to roam these streets quite often and she clearly survived and made a living. But to think she was capable of this was a bit more than what I expected.
Before the beast would even speak to us, I began an analysis of the situation. With its large form, it would be difficult to fight with close range. Of course, in an alleyway like this, it would also cause some maneuverability problems for the creature, so that was an exploitable weakness. And on that note, Ren seemed to be very apt on his feet. I myself could move fairly well, being a Hitorinji, but I had no real special skill in it. Sure, I could jump off a wall with a kick like a normal person and my stronger legs let me jump higher than a regular human (I assume I could jump even further with the effects of the spell I cast), but it wasn't like I practiced dashing through obstacles.
The voice of the beast rang in my ears, and that would mark the start point for the real battle. Marking that as the time to see that it was a true, serious matter we were about to deal with here, I turned to make sure Ren was ready. Unfortunately, he seemed out of breath. That wasn't a good sign. If he was still weakened, fighting was out of the question. I would need to make some sort of sign or alarm, and maybe the police would hear that? No, it would need to be outrageously huge, like an explosion of sorts. I still don't think my cell phone will work, since with those electrical magic she seems to make use of, it'd probably block my signal. So without a phone, and without a spell large enough to create something that would warrant the attention I need, I'll have to move on to other options. Of course, how long I'll be able to last is the question I ask myself as I turn my gaze to the creature diligently ingesting the powdery substance litter across the ground in bags. The blood pumped inside of me and adrenaline ran as I began to prepare for 'that' technique. If I hit with that, could I possibly end it?

___After a quick snap upwards of her head to swallow the contents of the baggie and subsequently spitting the plastic off to the side, she looked up. To all appearances, the universe ran in slow motion and vivid color. This form made it easier for her to reason, or perhaps it was the drugs. Looking up, she could see her would be victim, his hand... it moved slower than the hour hand of a clock towards his chest, clutching at the fabric that lay over his heart. A gnat from the dumpster, as though submerged, floated on it's tiny wings lazily, apathetically past her field of vision. Perhaps it was a trick of the dark, but she thought she could see the smallest bead of sweat go down the student's forehead. It must've been made of molasses for all the stiffness of it's flow.
___Her own breathing went at an impossibly heavy pace, as though it were water and not air her new form breathed. A drop of drool, hardly visible in the midnight, broke off from the larger lake of spit and proceeded to parachute down to the ground.
___Then she made her move. What seemed the space of a minute and a half were seconds after she'd eaten the dusty drug and though her movements were at the same pace as Kaito's, her perceptions and thought processes had sped exponentially until it matched the lytning she wielded. Quietly, she summoned a bolt to strike Hotaka (Lytning Bolt), and not waiting to see if the fire from the sky would strike him, attempted to run past him towards the fence where the other seemed to be crumpling.

It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

The beast seemed to quickly finish the small baggie of drugs it devoured, and now was where I assumed would come the demonstration she was speaking of. I hoped that Ren was in a position to get away in case something happened. Regardless of that, I had to stay focused on myself first off. If I got distracted we'd both end up dead. gazing at the satisfied beast, I realized how quickly it was breathing. Did the drugs have some sort of adverse effect? With what knowledge of these street drugs I had picked up, I knew most of them, if not all, had some tendency of having a side-effect which hurt the user in the long run. Of course, she could just be preparing for something, so I wouldn't turn down my guard...
...Unfortunately, it wouldn't help. As I prepared from an attack from any point around my body, even below, I disregarded the attack from above. I figured, like before, Nick would watch the spot above me in case she tried to strike there again. I was really expecting those binding chains like last time, or some blast from the mouth. Of course, by the time the hairs on the back of my neck tingled enough for me to look up, a pain came over me that cycled through my whole body and seemed to stick me in place for a moment. My teeth were forced to grit together as the current coursed through my body, before finally leaving off somewhere. In the time it took, I was able to see the beast dash to my side, assumingly going after its meal. Mentally, during the duration of the dash, I cursed myself. The reason I got hit was because I was expecting an attack from any other direction than from above, since I thought that was covered. Of course, if it was a true strike of lightning as it seemed to be, there would be no way he could react in time to warn me, and even if he could, I couldn't move in time to dodge once he had. The fact that she could summon actual lightning on a non-stormy night startled me and was above what I expected once again, but I wouldn't make that mistake again. With that attack, my realm of focus was altered to 360 degrees. There would be no more underestimation from me. Now, even though the strike hit me, it didn't hurt that much since I was a magically enhanced Hitorinji, it still had the adverse effect of crippling my movement for a moment. It was brief, and had she focused on hitting me afterward, I would've been a sitting duck, but the shift of focus was good since it allowed me to avoid another hit. Stepping away from the side Grunty dashed to, I would try to look behind me and see what was going on with her and Ren.

___Now this was strange, the beast thought in her drug drenched mind, this stuff claimed to make a person move faster, but all it had done was slow the entire universe down. The poor guy she planned to pounce on in the next... well, at the rate things were going, 15 minutes or so, seemed to be having some sort of a heart or mental attack, the way he simply stood there. That seemed normal. Most humans hated to see death coming, much less death from something dead. None of this meant she cared, however, it simply meant that with the pace of the world now for once she had time to think... something the she fox wasn't well practiced in and an activity that tended to lead to trouble for others. Her eyes sliding down, she noted the plight of her legs. Her back feet were on the ground and her front feet were lunging forward... she felt as though she were swimming in an endless sea of clear syrup. No matter how hard she pushed her feet, they continued to fall at the same slothful pace, like trying to push down a spring. Disappointed, she looked up towards her target. The expression on his face... such terror initially. It was an expression that appealed to her simple, wicked nature and mindlessly she smiled and drooled, though it seemed the muscles responsible for her smiling could only respond as slowly as the universe around her.
___However, her eyes weren't content with staying on his face and inevitably wandered down to his body... to the arm that she'd bit when she was smaller. Perhaps the starlight shone a little bit stronger here... maybe a once dead streetlight in some distant alley flickered on and made more light available to her night-tuned retinas... perhaps the drug's effects of slowing things down and making colors come alive gave her a more clear picture of the young man, but now that she looked at him he was remarkably skinny... like eating wasn't something he did on a frequent basis... perhaps semi-frequent, but protein as a general rule was expensive and he hadn't been consuming enough to plump him up to taste. A pity too. He wasn't half bad looking, especially his hair... a pleasant shade of brown and the sort of light, stringy texture that would twitch pleasantly, even in this stale air.
___He certainly wasn't an incubus like her beloved police chief, but... well, perhaps if she'd gotten a better look at him initially he would've done for a quick kidnapping.
___The drop of spit from what seemed half an hour ago hit the ground, splashing gently. Her front feet tapped the ground, but what happened made all four sets of her claws dig into the ground so she could stop and look up. Yes... the man before her was the only thing that moved at an ordinary pace. Some sort of defiance resided in his expression, completely different from the hopelessness that was there before. The smile in progress stopped as the man sprung up from his former posture, in what seemed some sort of a leap. Blinking with sudden admiration and curiosity, a rare feeling for the thug, she stopped completely and simply watched the man's progress running. In the narrow alley and at the speed he was going he was likely to run into a wall or a dumpster and damage himself if he wasn't careful. Moreover, if he had a gift then perhaps he was more useful than the spirit initially thought.
___As the vixen thought on these things, the little purplish pinnk lights in the alley rose off of the ground in the spiral they were already in, seeming linked together by some invisible force into a chain, which would try to restrain the man by the left ankle as he traveled through the air (Lytning Bind). If they made contact, the rope would snap up suddenly and hold the man upside down, bringing him before the creature's face.

It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

Glancing to the side as I moved around the charging beast, I saw Ren surprisingly stand his ground against it. My view of him was shortlived, however, as by the time I registered his foot pushing off the ground, he was gone, all just moments after I turned around. The man had just up and dissapeared as if he used some sort of teleportation magix. Of course, I doubted that to be true, as if he had some sort of special ability I likely would've realized by now, what with the situation we're in. With the way he planted his foot before dissapearing, it was likely a movement technique, like those Moskau knows. I had seen some other spirits who had those kinds of capabilities in all the time I was coming here, but to think he could do something like that was beyond what I could have ever expected of him.
Surprisingly enough, though, as quick as he dissapeared, he reappeared just a short distance away. Close to the beast, his body did a cringe-worthy faceplant onto the pavement of the alleyway. Caught on his foot, as I noticed after I stopped squinting my eyes from the force of the fall, was the electric chains I had been expecting since the beginning. But how was she able to catch him with them? Had they been lying in wait? Or could she cast those chains that fast? That was impossible! More over, how could she react so quickly? His speeds were going beyond what anyone could ever react to! Or so I thought. It must have been the effect of that stuff she sniffed up earlier. But she wasn't moving any quicker when she dashed just a moment ago. Sure, she was moving quicker than her movements had been before, but that was the result of the transformation, right? Regardless whether she got a speed enhancement from the drug or her transformation, the bottom line was that she somehow got superhuman reflexes. Her thinking process must have been sped up considerably. In this situation, even though we outnumber her 2 to 1, she can take her sweet time with her actions. How do we got about fighting an enemy like that? It could be done, and I had an idea of what I could do, but right now, I needed to get Ren out of there. Being behind the beast due to it dashing past me to get to Ren, I was in a good position to attack from its blind spot. If I did that, then maybe I could knock it out of the concentration on its technique long enough for Ren to strip free? Of course, I couldn't worry too much as I didn't have infinite time. Pushing doubtful thoughts out of my mind, I turned the rest of the way to the beasts back and kicked off with my back foot, dashing towards it and trying to get close enough to land a hit on it.

___So fascinated the beastly woman was with the way the man on the ground before her's hair fell around his face gently on to the pavement below, and so awed was she by this sudden display of not-uselessness that an almost tender expression was on her face by the time she got around to raising him off of the ground.
___Alas, she failed to notice the other hitorinji behind her trying to rush forward, instead wondering if perhaps she'd underestimated this one who probably quite nearly knocked his teeth out. Excitedly, she asked, "Whoa... yer awesome. How'd ye get that fast?"
___It would be cool to have a member of Propaganda who was actually weaker than her and male. He'd be easily sexually assaulted in a pinch, especially since Adrian left. If he could duplicate that speed trick, then that could be useful for thefts and distractions... the possibilities, in the apparent long length of time that she had to think, were expansive.
___Continuing in her rapid, but comprehensible talk, she went on. "Ha ha, my good brother! I was just testing ye. I thought my good customer Pedo... err... Kaito made a right sensible suggestion, eh? Can't believe ye fell for it! Ye ain't got no meat on yer bones... something we'll be fixing soon if ye'll accept my offer."
___Provided there was time before Kaito made his Dynamic reEntry, the vixen would shift back to her Drug Dealer appearance, but keep the man suspended upside down before her, continuing, still friendly but slightly more ominous, "Course, I'd be right injured if ye didn't. Welcome to Propaganda, eh?"

It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

Despite Ren being virtually unconscious from the apparent fall he took, (how it came about I was still unsure of) I wasn't about to let Grunty have her way with him. Being in full stride after my dash, I had my arm cocked back to deliver the strongest attack I could muster. It was one I still didn't have much control over, but I couldn't just let everything go as it was. A crackling energy circulated through my body, ending up in the cocked back arm. It was so intense that my whole body was shaking with its power, and I could not help but hold a look of contempt, frustration, and pain, as my entire body seemed as if it was having a migraine -- aching, dizzy, and off-kilter. This whole situation made it difficult to concentrate, which was essential here. However, I was able to get the energy from within me to the point in my fist without trouble. All that was left, was the delivery of the attack. Being close to the beast, I began to pull back from 'cocked' to a 'firing' position with my hand, letting out the low growl of "Kitasu...!" from under my breath, and then,
Bang! Or at least, that was when the 'Bang' was for me. It wasn't a physical interruption, or any explosion outside of my body in the material world. Hell, it may not even be recgonizable to either of the two I was sharing the alleyway with. But it certainly was a mental bang to me. All the power I had in my right forearm diminished in an instant, like a thought being pushed aside in one's mind. The fizzling of the attack brought on due to a moment's lapse in concentration, rendering the Kitasu Pao nothing more than a regular attack as my body felt the rush of energy return. Like shoving all the water in a river to one tiny sector and trapping it, only to have the flood gates break and release it all back to the way it was.
Halting my rush, I came to a stop behind the creature with my arms raised in front of my body as a sort of defensive position. Interestingly enough, the beast seemed to no longer have any desire to eat Ren, as it was simply speaking to him. I think. With the sort of high-pitched tone and quick speed this one spoke with, it wasn't completely certain if it really was 'speaking'. I couldn't really catch anything it was saying, but I slightly lowered my guard as it transformed back into the humanoid form it had when it first appeared on the scene. What it, or rather, she said next, I was able to hear enough to understand. It was a welcome? A welcome to what? I couldn't quite make out the name of the subject he was being welcomed to, but I presumed it was her 'group'. Probably the people she used to get her the things she sold out here on the streets. Interestignly enough, it seemed I wasn't the only one who didn't quite catch what she was saying, based on the 'out-of-it' expresison on Ren's face as he was being held upside down; something that I had experienced from this woman before as well. Of course, now wasn't the time for nostalgia, and I wasn't about to lower my guard just yet, lest she be planning to trick us. "You seem to have some fascination with holding people upside down like that. Do you like the standing-69 position, or something?"

___"Huh?" The effects of the drug, slowly but surely wearing off, there seemed to be some sort of a commotion from the previously forgotten hero. Shaking her head and snorting shortly, she found that time was a great deal faster than it had seemed a mere few hours ago... or seconds... or... oy... such thoughts made her head hurt as they would in the natural order of things. Keeping her grip on her victim's ankle, she began talking perhaps an octave above her normal, gravelly sort of voice, gradually returning to its normal range as she replied to the man behind her. "Standing 69? Yer full of great ideas, I like that! You get a discount on yer next perchase. Personally, I think that'd be great recompensation. Nothin worse than a woman spurned and all. This made me go through all the trouble of testing him. I figure if he don't accept my offer instead of getting mad maybe I'd offer him another payment plan." Her eyes turned to the man who, now that time resumed didn't seem fully conscious. "He's kinda cute and helpless, smashin himself into the floor isn't he? Wonder if I could finish before he wakes up. Whatchoo think, Perv?"
___Her tongue lolling out like a dog's, the creature was smiling quite widely and seemed to be fostering some pleasant mental images.

Hotaka Kaito!
It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

The fact that she accuses me of being 'full of great ideas' gives me the feeling that I went too far in my assumptions, and that perhaps my joke was ill-placed. Did I just get get Ren here in more trouble? Well, whoops! But at least she doesn't seem to want to fight anymore, so his life isn't on the line (though with this woman, perhaps dying would've been the better alternative?). Even still, why would I ever want a discount on a purchase from her? Avoiding the need of her shop was one of my top goals right now. "Finishing him might not be a problem, but getting him to return the favor in the position he's in..."
As I say it, he seems to noticeably stir and makes an apparent threat to my life. I furrow my brow and take a mock-offended look. "Sheesh. If it wasn't for me, you'd be food right now. Even more so, you would at least still be in pain from your spill earlier; in case you'd forgotten that much." I say that, but at the same time, I raised my gaze to the sky. While it was still extremely dark, that was the cause of my worry. With how black it seemed to be, it was done getting darker and would soon start to slowly grow brighter. I had to get on my way back to the Academic District soon! I wouldn't want Moskau to wake up and not find me there. Ahh~ We don't have much food right now, so perhaps I'd get her take out? Whatever. Either way, I needed to finish up here. I would turn bck into a jokester for a moment, and repay Ren for his death threat with, what was essentially one of my own. "Well, you look like you're fine Ren. I have no intention of killing myself, and since you apparently want to kill me, I should leave. Unless you're feeling more hospitable and would like to apologize!"

___"Ah, got some spunk in yew..." the large fox chortled as her captive gave a death threat to Kaito. "No killin of customers, or threatenin to kill customers... except by other customers of course, which I figure yew ain't unless I could interest you in some of the stuff I just showed ye. Next week I'll have some juice that can take ye from weak to powerful in 3 seconds, eh?"
___Her mood mellowed out, and she dropped the transformation, instead appearing in the human form she'd originally approached them in. Her hand on her chin, she seemed to be examining the hanging man further. "Actually, Kind Customer O' Mine, I'd prefer if you'd beat it if you don't plan to buy anything. I'm sure yer moma's callin' ye and I actually have some business to settle with this one. Ain't gonna eat him, though. Not enough skin on 'is bones. I'd have to feed 'im alot before he'd even be worth killin'. Speakin of which, how much yew eat, son? If yer havin' trouble getting food I has the perfect plan for ye..."

Hotaka Kaito!
It was a dark, stormy night... when the ninja "attacked"!

Unfortunately, I failed to rile Ren visibly, but it was one of those things which felt good by simply saying. His reaction would have only acted as the icing on top of the cake. Either way it seemed he was safe, which was the entire point to fighting. Although, how 'safe' he was was an interesting question, but if he wasn't going to be eaten, that was enough for me. Especially considering he didn't seem to be fighting his restraints at all. Hell, even Grunty herself seemed to be pushing me away, and since I had already spent quite some time here -- more than I originally intended -- leaving now was the smartest thing to do, doublely so when you take into account that I need to pick up food for myself and the three others who share my 'humble abode'. But what Grunty said caught me somewhat; the whole "purchase" thing. While she had mentioned it several times before, at those points I was pretty on-edge with her being around. Now, when I was calmer, I actually wondered just what she had in stock. Though it's true she seems to work in mostly small drugs and special specific orders, I wish she had a van or something I could carouse through. Even though I knew it would be full of terrible things, I just couldn't stop my curiosity.
Oh well. She doesn't have one, so I can't look. There's no use crying over that. I should simply put that aside and not worry about it. Instead of focusing on that, I'll focus on what toget for breakfast for everyone. "The little one always wanted to try that Ramen hut. That's not to ofar out of the way, right~? Then the other one's easy; one or two pocky boxes and that'll be enough. But how about the last one~..." I mumble all this to myself under my breath as I begin to walk away, as I had been so requested to. Of course, if Ren were to scream "Help Me!" like a little girlie man, I'd surely stop and help him.

___The woman's nose wrinkled at the neck cracking, as though she'd just sniffed pepper. "Mmm... business? Ah, naw, I'm a very playful person," she grunted matter-of-factly to the hanging man's crotch. "It's just that you need money to have fun on this earth, eh? Ha ha... yes."
___Very pompously and ceremoniously, the woman withdrew a green bottle with a red star on it from the inside of her baggy coat. Inverting the bottle over her head, she took a few deep gulps and wiped her mouth, offering the bottle to the non customer as she continued. "As Kaito said, I have a merry little band of men and Ies looking to recruit. You seem like a fellow who performs well under... uhh... pressure..." Realizing she just pointed out what the man's weakness seemed to be based on the past hour or so, she amended the sentence as though she'd never made a mistake. "Of course I mean you can move a lot faster than I thought ye could. Pretty useful. Plus, I like the homeless look combined wif yer hair. Easy on the eyes. Might let ye get out of the offer for a comfy night, but that ain't here nor there. What's yer askin' price to join, eh? Other than yer life I mean. Ha ha!" Though she kept her tone formal and her gestures friendly, there seemed to be some ill-intentioned glint in her eyes, not necessarily of hunger.

___Smirking, the woman retracted her offer of a drink and took another swig, licking her lips and regarding him with a perverse wistfulness. "Ye prefer to be thought of as food? Ah, I guess that's what some guys are into nowadays. Ies met a homeless guy who liked dolphins an awful lot. No 'countin for taste, ye know."
___The liquor tasted good, and the vulnerability of the man hanging upside down and the subsequent empowerment from him being righted wasn't lost on the spirit's unsophisticated mind. Tapping her forehead lightly, she smiled a little wider. "Ah, don't think of ole Grunty as dumb. Naw, I'm just a little uneducated. I put you down, you try to break the chain by running off with that speed without answerin, eh? Not that I don't has yer smell. Ies assume you don't have a home to hide in... even then homes can be destroyed. They say hells have no fury... but Ima let ye go anyways. If I really wanted ye, well, I can find ye in yer sleep. But I guess the first step to a professunal relationship is trust, my good man..."
___Though her words held worry, her tone and manner continued to be casual, as though she was making an offhand observation about her own actions. Slowly, she lowered the man so he would have time to right himself as he descended, but the energy chain remained. The hold grew tiresome, but the casualness was to cover up the exhaustion. All of this transformation business combined with the raw energy of having to fight and the slow drain of the chain chipped away at her energy gradually.

___Well, the direct threat of death and the less subtle threat of rape failed to make this man want to join up, so he probably did have some stuff he had to take care of first... fine by her. One night when she felt more energetic and there were no gar guardians to protect him, she could find him and make him see the error of his ways.
___For now, she'd already wasted enough time not-hustling. Smiling pleasantly, but to such a degree she hoped it would be unsettling, she dropped the spell. "That's fine. I'll give ye as much time as ye want, but if ye want to come to me and not make me track ye down, ye just ask any bum or lower class demon. They know me. See you around, eh?"
___Waving over her back, she trotted off and rounded a dark corner, leaving the man to his thoughts.
