Today I planed to spend quite some time at the City Metro Range in Gunshyne Bastion. The plan was to train my skills with weapons other then the pistol. Taking the final sip from my coffee, I set the cup back into the cup holder before reaching over and opening the door. As I push the door open I step out of my vehicle and shut the door behind me. After exiting my vehicle, I begin to move across the parking lot, coming to the main entrance, I passed through the gateway and into the building. After stepping through the main entrance, I move over to the reception desk. After a polite greeting from the woman behind the desk, I speak with her for a moment, telling her what I required. After finishing she typed some things on her computer handing me a slip I needed then sending me on my way. With slip in hand, I made my way to the range's armory to pick up the weapons I would be using along with ammunition for them. As I entered the room I was greeted by the man behind the counter " Hello, what can I do for you? " The man asked as I made my way up to the counter he was standing behind " I'm here to get some weapons for practice. " I said as I handed over the paper the woman had given me. The man looked over the paper and nodded " Alright. One moment please. " He said before going to get what was on the form.

I waited at the counter, glancing around some. When I heard the man returning I turned my attention back across the counter as the man walked up to the counter and set one of the two rifles he had down on the counter, holding up a sniper rifle as he spoke " Alright. I believe these are what you are looking for. A sniper rifle and assault rifle, along with ammunition for the both of them. " as he finished he set the sniper rifle on the counter before setting some magazines and ammunition on the counter " Anything else? " He asked looking to me. Looking to the man I gave a shake of the head as I speak up " No, this will do, thank you. " I said as I grabbed the assault rifle and slung it over my shoulder before picking up the ammunition and sniper rifle " Thanks. " I said before I turned and left the armory. Stepping out of the room, I begin my trek to the firing range so I could start practicing with the weapons I had just acquired. When I was last outside the weather looked good and clear so I decided I would use one of the outdoor ranges for target practicing. Making my way to one of the outdoor ranges I give a quick glance to the booths to find one that was opened before I make my way to it and set the two weapons on the table.

Once I was settled into the booth I had picked out, I looked down at both the weapons I had been given, both where rifle class weapons and that was a class of firearm I had virtually no experience with but that is why I am here right now, to work on my skills with a rifle, be it assault rifle or sniper rifle, I was going to be good with rifle class weapons since the need to use one in the field may come up some time and if or when it did, I wanted to be ready and able to handle the weapon with skill. I stood there for a moment, shifting my gaze between the sniper rifle and the assault rifle as I tried to figure out which one I wanted to start with. I was so focused on which weapon to use I didn't hear the foot steps as someone approached me from behind, " You look like you're having a hard time, can I help with anything? ", however my focus was interrupted when I heard the voice as someone spoke to me. Turning my attention away from the two weapons I looked to the man, speaking up " Eh, I'm just not sure which to start with. To be honest, I've never used either of these weapons.. " As I finished answering his question, I turned my attention back to the two weapons. " I see. I happen to be in instructor here so how about I lend you a hand? " the man said.

I look to them an for a moment before looking back to the two weapons and nod my head " Yeah, that sounds good, thanks. " and it did sound good, why go about learning how to use a weapon on your own when you can have someone help you.. well I did learn how to use the pistol on my own, or at least with only pointers.. I still had to do the hard work and here I would too, just with pointers. The man nodded as he looked at the two weapons that where sitting in front of me " How about we start with the sniper rifle, the assault rifle is fairly easy to wield, the sniper rifle on the other hand takes more practice. " When he finished voicing his opinion I gave a nod " Alright. " I said as I reached for the sniper rifle and picked it up. After picking up the sniper rifle, the man to give me some basic pointers on how to use the weapon. Bringing the sniper rifle up, I pressed the butt of the weapon snugly into my shoulder, since I already had a grip on the handle, I reach out with my free arm and take firmly grip the fore grip of the sniper rifle. After getting the weapon fit against me I glance to the man before looking down range. " Alright, that looks good. Now, squeeze off a few round at the target and lets see how you do. "

I nod and place my cheek against the cheek rest on the rifle. It was a lot different then wielding a hand gun, for one, the weapon weighed more and that would make it hard to hold up over long periods, and it was longer then a pistol. I noticed I had forgotten one of the crucial steps in getting ready to fire, I had forgotten to load the weapon... With a sigh of annoyance I pull the weapon away from my shoulder and release the front end before reaching down for a magazine. The man standing next to me let out a light chuckle " Yeah, you might want to make sure the weapon is loaded before trying to fire, that helps. After picking the magazine up, I push it into the magazine receiver and make sure the weapon was loaded. Once the sniper rifle was loaded, I flip up the scope covers before bringing the weapon back to rest against my shoulder. As I stood there I gazed through the scope, down range at the target, the rifle was already starting to swerve some as I was having trouble keeping still with it. After a moment of trying to steady my self, I take the shot, applying a gentle squeeze to the trigger, just enough to fire off the first round. Pulling my head away from the cheek rest, I look down range at the target to see where I had hit it. I was shocked when I seen the paper was unharmed, I missed?

How in the world could I miss? " Don't sweat it, everyone misses now and then. It's expected, especially if you are new to the weapon. Just keep at it and you will get the hang of it. " he said in a reassuring way. I gave a nod before pressing my cheek back against the cheek rest on the stalk of the gun. Looking through the scope again I gaze down range at the target. Taking a moment to steady out the movement and line up the shot, I wait a moment before squeezing the trigger again as I had done before. After the shot, I pull away my head away from the stalk and gaze down at the target again, this time I hit it, but not where I was hoping to hit it, but it was a good start, now maybe it would be down hill from here. " Good work, you hit the target this time. " The man said. I glanced to him before placing my cheek against the cheek rest again and lined up for another shot. Once I was ready, I took another shot at the target, however this time after the first shot I didn't pull away from the rifle, instead opting to take another shot at the target, I gave the trigger another squeeze and fired off a second round down range before pulling my head away from the weapon to see how I did this time. Gazing down range at where I hit the paper target, managing to get both shots on the outline of a person.

" Well done, how about we try a crouching stance, and then after that we can try a prone position. " the man said as he looked to me. I took a moment to think over what he said before nodding " Alright. " I said as I flipped the safety on the sniper rifle on before lowering the barrel of it to face the ground. After agreeing to what the man said, he pulled the assault rifle and ammunition off the table and set them aside before adjusting the table so it wasn't in my way. Once the table was set, I knelt down on one knee and brought the sniper rifle back up. " Like this, you should have better accuracy with the weapon, being crouched offers a better platform for holding the weapon and helps reduce the shaking. ". I nodded to what the man had to say as I rested my cheek against the stalk of the sniper rifle and glanced through the scope and down range to the target. Kneeling like this did help out with aiming the weapon like the man said. Griping the gun tightly and keeping it snug against my shoulder, I gaze down range at my target and line up a shot, when I was ready I gave the trigger and squeeze and fired off my next round. After firing the round I lowered the rifle some and looked at the target, seeing where I had hit it. Seeing it was around center mass on the outline I nodded faintly. " Good work, why don't you fire off the rest in that magazine and we will change magazines and try going prone. " Nodding I bring the sniper rifle back up and take aim at the target again. After I picked out a spot on the target, I gave the trigger a squeeze and fired off a round into the target, after the first round, I give the trigger another squeeze and fire off a second round as I had done before. After firing the two rounds, I lower the rifle and flip the safety back on before pressing the magazi8e release switch and take the magazine out of the sniper rifle. After taking the magazine out, I stand up and set it aside before grabbing one of the spare magazines. " Alright, now that you are finished with that magazine, how about we try the pron stance with this magazine, put the bi pod down on the end of the rifle and lay on your stomach. " The man said to me. I nodded as I loaded the magazine into the sniper rifle before reaching up and pulling both legs on the bi pod down. Once I had the two legs down, I moved down and laid on my stomach, placing the sniper rifle down so it rested on the two bi pod legs and against my shoulder.

After getting situated on the floor, I press my cheek against the cheek rest and look through the scope down range to the target, like this there was no way the rifle could move and my shot was assured. Now that I had a fresh magazine and was setting in a way that would help me hit the target more, I decided I would let loose and see how good I could hit the target firing from this position. As I looked through the scope, I picked out a spot on the target I would aim for and see how many shots I could get in the general area. Flipping the safety off, I placed my finger against the trigger and paused for a moment before giving the trigger a squeeze, firing off the first round. With out pulling away, I gave the trigger another squeeze, firing off a second around down range and into the target, a third round followed shortly after the second as I gave the trigger another squeeze. As I did this I decided I would take a pause around the fifth round to see how good I was doing. A forth squeeze of the trigger came, sending another round down range and into the paper target. Finally the fifth squeeze came before I removed my finger from the trigger and lifted my head to see how good I had done. Glancing over the target I see about half the shots hit the area I had picked out, the circle around where the heart would be, two hitting the upper chest and one the left shoulder area. " Not bad. It's a lot easier to aim when you are prone like that, isn't it? " the man asked as he looked at the target. " Yeah, it is. " I said with a nod before putting my head back to the sniper rifle as I got ready to fire off the last five rounds in the magazine. After getting into place again I look through the scope, looking over the target before I pick out another spot to aim for. This time, I decided to go for the head, that seemed like a good spot to shoot if I was trying to kill someone so I might as well see how many times I could hit it. However, the head was a much smaller target then the body and posed a bit of a challenge to hit. With my target picked out, I slip my finger back onto the trigger and begin giving it light squeezes, sending rounds down range. After the fifth round I pull away and look at the target. Seeing I had hardly hit the head I let out a sigh as I flip the safety on on the sniper rifle. After the safety was on I stood up, taking the weapon with me, it was getting on my nerves so I decided to practice with the other one, the assault rifle.

Now that my time with the sniper rifle was done, I turned my attention to the assault rifle. After setting the sniper rifle on the table, I pick up the assault rifle. After picking the assault rifle up, I look over the weapon, I had come to the conclusion that I really didn't like the sniper rifle, I'm not saying it isn't a good gun, it just isn't a gun for me. " Alright, now with the assault rifle, you have three different firing modes, semi-automatic, three round burst, and fully automatic. With semi-automatic, each squeeze of the trigger will fire off a single round, I suggest you start with that first, and you can work your way up to fully automatic, sound good? The selection switch to change is next to the handle, so it isn't hard to find. " I nodded to what the man had to say as I picked up one of the magazines for the assault rifle and loaded it into the weapon before pulling back the charging handle to load the weapon. " Alright. " I said as I glanced at the fire selection switch and changed it to semi-auto. After setting the fire mode, I brought the assault rifle up and pressed the but snuggle into my shoulder as I gazed down the top of the weapon through the sights. Taking a moment to line up the sights and pick out a spot on the target, I slip my finger onto the trigger and give it a squeeze, firing off a round into the target.

After firing the first round, I keep my cheek rested on the rifle as I gaze down the sights at the target, seeing where I had hit the target, around mid chest area. After gazing down at the target a moment longer I decide to continue with my firing and proceed to squeeze off two more rounds into the target. After the second set of rounds, I lower the weapon and look down range at the target for a moment before looking down at the weapon. I felt I could handle a stronger fire mode so I flipped the selector switch straight to fully automatic. After changing the fire mode on the weapon, I bring it back up and press the butt into my shoulder as I gaze down range at the target. I had seen an assault rifle fired on full auto on the tv so I figured I could handle it, it didn't look to hard.. Holding the assault rifle snuggle against my shoulder, I slipped my finger onto the trigger and gave it a squeeze. What followed next was a bit unexpected as the weapon began to unload a hail of rounds down rage it began pushing back into me with recoil and the barrel of the gun began climbing up. " Whoa, Whoa. " The man said as I released the trigger, ending the barrage of bullets. After releasing the trigger I looked to the man with a light grin " Guess it isn't like on the movies. " Man I felt like an idiot now.

" Yeah. You shouldn't jump right into firing fully automatic, you should work your way up to it. Though now I believe you understand why I say that. " The man said as he held back a bit of laughter. I nodded to what the man said, well now I know that I was wrong.. Though I felt like an idiot for trying, should have asked first.. Though you never learn anything if you don't experience it first hand.. Now that I knew first hand that I still needed more practice before going to fully automatic, I switch the fire mode back to semi automatic so I could fire off a few more rounds before moving on to a different setting With the fire mode set back to single shot, I bring the assault rifle back up, pressing the butt snuggle into my shoulder as I brought the weapon up and lined up the sights with the target down range. " You have it on single shot, right? " The man asked as he watched me. I gave him a faint nod " Mhm. " I said before slipping my finger onto the trigger and giving it a light squeeze, firing off a round into the paper target " Though ... I think I should get a new target. " I said as I glanced to the man. He looked at me for a moment before looking at the paper target and nodded " Alright. " He said and pressed the switch to replace the target. I watched as the target was replaced with a fresh one, giving me a chance to start over and see where I am hitting the target with rounds from the assault rifle since the last target had been turned into swiss cheese from all the rounds I put through it.

With a fresh target, I look down the sights of the assault rifle, down range at the new paper target. Along with the new paper target, I was feeling that I could move up to a three round burst and practice that way for a while before switching to fully automatic again, however this time I was going to make sure I was ready for fully automatic before switching to that fire mode. I didn't wanna end up shooting someone, or my self.. Lowering the barrel of the assault rifle, I pull my head away from the stalk as I tilt the weapon so I could see the fire mode selection switch. Before I could do anything further the man next to me spoke up " Ready to step it up a notch and go into a three round burst? " He asked as he watched me. I looked to him and nodded " Yeah. Single shot is fairly easy and straight forward, so I was going to move into a short three round burst. Spend some time there getting use to a burst... This weapon is nothing like a pistol, the weapon I'm use to. " as I finished I turned my attention back to the assault rifle. " I see. The assault rifle is a more more accurate and deadly weapon compared to a pistol, though both weapons have there advantages and disadvantages, you have to know when to use each weapon in order to employ it effectively. " When he finished speaking I gave a nod, thinking over what he had to say and committing it to memory, up until now I had just been relying on my pistols or a shotgun, however I thought it would come in handy to have an assault rifle and now how to use one. Shifting my thumb, I flipped the fire selection switch over to the three round burst setting before I brought the assault rifle back up to the proper position and rested the butt of it against my shoulder. Once I had the weapon in place I slipped my finger onto the trigger and gazed down the sights at the target down range. As I gazed down at the target I rested my finger against the trigger, not yet pulling on it, simply watching the target for a moment as I took in a few slow deep breaths, holding them in for a moment before releasing them.

Now that I had taken a moment to collect my self and get ready for more training, it was time to start. As I looked through the sights down range at the target, I gave the trigger a light squeeze, just enough to cause the weapon to open fire. As I pulled on the trigger, the assault rifle let loose a three round burp down range into the target. As the burst fired off the weapon kicked back into my shoulder but not with as much force as it had done when I went fully automatic and the recoil as well as the muzzle lift where easier to control. Giving the target a quick glance over to see where I had hit, I prepared to unleash another barrage down range. After picking another spot on the target out, I give the trigger a quick squeeze, unleashing another three round burp down range into the awaiting target after unleashing the three round burst into the target, I shifted, turning the weapon to the left slightly before I gave the trigger another squeeze. After giving the trigger the squeeze another three round burst ripped through the target. After the barrage I shifted the barrel of the gun again, taking aim at another spot on the target before I gave it another squeeze. The squeeze unleashed another three round burst down range into the paper target. After the last burst, I lowered the assault rifle and switched the safety on before looking over the paper target.

After lowering the rifle I scan over the target, glancing at where I hit it with my shots. " You are doing pretty good. I would suggest practicing a bit more with the three round burst before moving on to fully automatic. How does that sound? ". When he finished speaking I glanced to him and nodded " Alright. That sounds good. " I said as I glanced down at the assault rifle before bringing it up to rest snug against my shoulder. After getting the weapon rested against my shoulder I switched the safety off as I gaze down at the target ' I need a new target. ' I thought to my self as I looked at the hole ridden paper target " Bring up a new target? " I asked the man as I gave a glance in his direction. " Sure. " He said with a nod as he pressed the button to get the target changed. Moments after the button as pressed, the target was switched out with a new one. With the new target I get ready to open fire again. Slipping my finger onto the trigger, I give it a quick squeeze to unleash a three shot barrage into the fresh target. After the three round burst, I lift the muzzle of the rifle up, taking aim at the head and shift it to the side as I pull the trigger, firing a three round burst as I sweep the rifle to the side, hitting the head of the target.

After firing the burst into the head of the target, I switch to another part of it and give the trigger a quick squeeze, firing off another three round burst into the target. After the burst, I lowered the rifle and looked down at the target, well now I was feeling comfortable with a three round burst I was feeling I could tackle full auto, or at least try it again. I glanced to the man standing next to me before looking down at the target as I switched the fire mode to fully automatic once again. After switching the fire mode to fully automatic I brought the weapon back up and rested it against my shoulder again as I looked down at the target " Here goes fully automatic again. " I said as I slipped my finger onto the trigger. I didn't see the man's nod but I heard when he spoke up " Alright. Just remember to keep a firm grip on the weapon and if you start to lose control release the trigger. " As he finished speaking I nodded " Alright. " I said before falling silent, pausing a moment before I gave the trigger a squeeze. As I depressed the trigger, the assault rifle began to belch out a barrage of bullets down range. I held onto the rifle, trying to keep it on target as I kept the trigger pressed down, keeping up the barrage of bullets down range. After a few more seconds I finally released the trigger as I began feeling unsteady with the recoil.

As I reloaded the trigger the barrage of bullets I was sending down range ceased and took a moment to glance over the whole ridden piece of paper. While gazing at the target, I sighed lightly, the barrage of bullets had pretty much turned it into swiss cheese " Time for a new target? " I said as I glanced to the man standing next to me. He looked at the target for a moment before nodding " Yeah. That guy would be dead like the others. " He said with a light chuckle as he turned and pressed the target change button. After the button was pressed, the target disappeared and a few seconds later a new one came up for me to shoot at. Once I had a new target, I glanced at it for a moment before I turned my attention back to the assault rifle. I wasn't exactly sure how many rounds where left in the magazine, but I felt it necessary to change to a fresh one. With the decision to change the magazine to a fresh one, I pressed the magazine release switch and took the current magazine from the assault rifle and set it on the table before picking up the fresh one. After picking up the fresh magazine I loaded it into the rifle and pulled the charging handle back to make sure the assault rifle. After making sure the rifle was loaded I brought it up and readied it against my shoulder as I looked down at the new target.

I decided this was going to be the last few rounds I sent down range with the assault rifle, having come to the conclusion I had spent enough time with the assault rifle and I should move onto another one to practice with. I gazed down the sights for a moment as I lined up with the target and when I was ready, I gave the trigger a squeeze, sending forth a barrage of bullets from the assault rifle. I kept the trigger held in and continued to fire off a barrage of bullets down range into the target and around the target since I was still having some trouble keeping the sight on the target while firing in fully automatic, though it was getting a bit easier. I kept the trigger pressed in a few more seconds before I released it and lowered the assault rifle and looked down range at the target. I gazed over the target for a moment before I released the front of the assault rifle and pressed the magazine release switch and took the magazine out of the weapon and set it on the table before ejecting the live round still in the weapon, " I think it's time to move on with my practice. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it a lot. " I said as I looked to the man. He looked to me and gave a return nod, " No problem. It's my job and was delighting to help you out. I enjoy helping people learn. If you need anything else just come and get me. " As he finished he turned and walked off. I watched him for a moment before turning my attention back to the assault rifle as I thought on what to practice with now.
